Network Storage

NAS is a disk array storage system that is attached directly to a network rather than to the network server.

A SAN is a network of storage disks. In large enterprises, a SAN connects multiple servers to a centralised pool of disk storage. Compared to managing hundreds of servers, each with their own disks, SANs simplify system administration. By treating all the company's storage as a single resource, disk maintenance and routine backups are easier to schedule and control. In some SANs, the disks themselves can copy data to other disks for backup without any processing overhead at the host computers.

In most cases, Network Attached Storage is less expensive to purchase and less complex to operate than a Storage Area Network. However, a SAN can provide better performance and a larger range of configuration options.
